IK enclosure protection class

IK collision level refers to the enclosure of electrical equipment external mechanical collision protection level (degree of protection against mechanical impacts), the enclosure of the equipment provided due to external mechanical collision and does not subject the equipment to the harmful effects of the protection (level), and the use of standardized test methods to be verified.
IK code:
The code indicates the level of protection provided by the enclosure against harmful external mechanical impacts.
Marking:
The IK code for the level of protection of the enclosure against external mechanical impacts is expressed in the following way.
Code letters (international mechanical protection)
Combination of characteristic numbers (00 to 11)
Characteristic numbers of the IK code and their definitions:
Each group of characteristic numbers represents a collision energy value, see table below
IK crashworthiness level from IK01 to IK11, a total of 11 levels, CJC Inspection Reliability Laboratory impact test device can be directly tested to IK11 level.
Application of IK code:
Usually, the protection level applies to the whole enclosure. If some parts of the enclosure have different levels of protection, their corresponding levels of protection should be marked.
Marking:
If the relevant product committee decides to require the marking of the IK code, the marking requirements shall be specified in detail in its relevant product standard.
If applicable, the product standard shall also specify the marking method to be used in the following cases.
(1) one part of the same enclosure has a different level of protection than the other parts.
(2) The state of installation will affect the level of protection of the enclosure.
Verification of mechanical impact protection test:
Test, the shell under test should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions on a rigid support base. When the support base directly apply an energy corresponding to the level of protection of the enclosure under test of the collision force, such as the occurrence of the displacement is less than or equal to 0.1mm, it is considered that the support base has sufficient rigidity.
Other installation and support methods suitable for the product can be specified in the relevant product standards.
If not specified in the relevant product standard, each exposed surface shall withstand 5 collisions. The collisions shall be evenly distributed over the test surface of the enclosure under test. No more than 3 impacts shall be applied in the vicinity of the same part of the enclosure. The relevant product standard shall specify the collision sites for the applied impact forces.
Often the requirements for IK and IP ratings go together. For outdoor electronic equipment (Outdoor), whether overhead, buried or ordinary outdoor placement, need to have the corresponding IP and IK protection requirements, IK rating is the unit of joules of the pendulum free-fall impact to determine.
